VAA offers over 150 classes per year, taught by some of the finest artists in the region, to islanders of all ages.
Since 1988, Vashon Allied Arts and the Vashon Island School District partnership have shared a common goal: To ensure that all Island students have access to comprehensive and arts education as part of their core curriculum. Today, the Vashon Artists in Schools program is a finely tuned partnership which has become deeply imbedded in public education and Island culture. By carefully pairing classroom teachers and arts specialists with over 40 community and regional professional artists in music, dance, visual arts and theatre, Vashon Artists in Schools provides arts education enrichment experiences for students and their families as well as the continual infusion of new ideas for their partner teachers.

Blue Heron Dance
Founded in 1989, is the oldest and most established dance program
on Vashon Island. Based on an international pre-professional
syllabus Blue Heron Dance offers sequential training in Ballet and
Modern by highly qualified instructors with extensive backgrounds in
both teaching and performing

Vashon Artists in Schools
The Vashon Artists in Schools program has been enriching the educational experience of Vashon school children for many years. This important addition to their understanding and appreciation of art and the opportunities it provides for their involvement in it replaces some of the programs lost to politics and budget cuts.
Blue Heron Youth Theater
Expanded for 2008, Blue Heron Youth Theater now embraces all
aspiring performers from ages 4 to 18. Class levels encourage
students to expand their talents as they grow, culminating in
performances by the BHYT Teen Stage Company.

Theater for Adults
Explore improv, imagination and text analysis techniques to build distinct characters. Working individually and with partners, participants will develop scenes to share with friends and family for the last class.
Blue Heron Visual Arts
A variety of classes in many arts are regularly offered, including painting, drawing, photography, metal sculpture.
Vashon Island Youth Chorus and Teen Chorus
Young vocalists learn to craft harmonies in an inspiring, world
harmony theme, culminating in Vashon Island performances.

Blue Heron Literary Arts
Blue Heron Dance classes build on classical ballet instruction in a pre-professional capacity. Students as young as three can begin to learn about movement, music, and working together. Classes culminate in unique performances complemented by stunning sets and costumes. A holiday favorite is the annual production of the Nutcracker. Our faculty includes professional dancers and choreographers. Other dance styles offered include Hip Hop, Jazz, and Modern Dance.
